1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and ThinkBudgets ("ThinkBudgets," "we," "us," or "our"). They govern your use of our budgeting platform at thinkbudgets.com.

By signing up or using the Service, you also agree to our Privacy Policy. If you're using ThinkBudgets on behalf of an organization, you're representing that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

2. What ThinkBudgets Is

ThinkBudgets is a budgeting app — strictly budgeting. It helps you create budgets, track income and expenses, manage loans, set savings goals, link bank accounts, and share budgets with people in your household or workspace. That's the scope of what we do.

We are not a financial advisor, investment advisor, broker, or credit counselor. Nothing in the app is financial, tax, investment, or legal advice. If you need help with investments or wealth planning, please talk to a licensed professional.

Some features — like premium workspaces, coaching tools, and paid plans — are planned but may not be active yet. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

3. Who Can Use ThinkBudgets

You must be at least 18 years old and a US resident to use the Service. By using ThinkBudgets, you're confirming that's true. If we find out a user is under 18, we'll close that account.

4. Your Account

To use most features, you'll need to create an account. Please keep your information accurate and up to date, and don't impersonate anyone else or create an account if we've previously terminated yours.

Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for everything that happens under your account. If you think your account has been compromised, let us know right away at hello@thinkbudgets.com. We're not liable for losses caused by unauthorized access to your account.

Each person gets one account. Accounts aren't transferable.

5. How You Can Use It

Use ThinkBudgets lawfully and in good faith. Don't do things that harm the Service, other users, or us — that includes things like trying to hack the platform, scraping data, clicking through ads fraudulently, or selling access to the Service.

If we think you've misused the Service, we reserve the right to take action, including suspending or terminating your account.

6. Advertising

ThinkBudgets displays advertising on parts of the site and app to support the free tier. Ads are served by Google AdSense and other third-party ad networks. We don't choose the specific ads shown to any individual user, we don't endorse advertised products or services, and we don't share your budgets, transactions, goals, or account information with advertisers.

You agree not to interfere with how ads are served — for example, by using automated tools to generate impressions or clicks, or by attempting to manipulate ad placements. We may change which pages or features show ads at any time. See our Privacy Policy for what data is collected when ads load and the available opt-out paths.

If you click on an ad, you are leaving ThinkBudgets and engaging with a third party. Any purchase, sign-up, or interaction with an advertiser is between you and that advertiser — we are not a party to it and not responsible for it.

7. Affiliate Links

Sometimes we link to third-party products or services. If you buy something through one of those links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Per FTC guidelines: we disclose affiliate relationships wherever they appear. We only promote things we think could genuinely help our users, but those links aren't endorsements or guarantees. Any purchase you make through a third-party link is between you and that third party — we're not involved in or responsible for it.

8. Your Financial Data

ThinkBudgets helps you organize and visualize your budget. The data, charts, and insights you see are for your own personal use and organizational clarity only — not advice of any kind.

If you connect a bank account, that connection goes through Plaid. You authenticate directly with Plaid; we never see or store your bank login credentials. We get read-only access to your transaction and balance data. Plaid's own privacy policy applies to that connection. You can disconnect a bank account anytime in your settings.

We're not responsible for errors or delays in data from your bank. You're responsible for the accuracy of anything you enter manually.

Shared & Public Budgets

ThinkBudgets lets you generate a public link to share your budget with anyone — even people without an account. When you create a shared link, you control which data is visible through the sharing settings.

You are solely responsible for what you choose to share publicly. Before sharing, make sure you have the consent of all workspace members whose data may be included. Sharing a workspace member's financial information without their knowledge or permission may violate their privacy and could expose you to legal liability.

ThinkBudgets is not responsible for any consequences that result from you sharing budget data — whether your own or another workspace member's — via a public link or any other means. Once data is shared externally, we cannot control how third parties use, copy, or redistribute it.

9. Financial Calculators & Estimates

Loan Calculator

ThinkBudgets includes a loan calculator that lets you estimate monthly payments, total interest, and amortization schedules for various loan types. These calculations use standard formulas and the information you provide. They are estimates only — actual loan terms, interest calculations, fees, and payment amounts are determined by your lender and may differ significantly based on factors including (but not limited to) compounding method, payment timing, origination fees, insurance requirements, escrow, and rounding rules.

Payment Estimates

When you create a payment schedule for a calculated loan scenario or for an active loan you are tracking, the resulting payment amounts are approximations. Each lender applies its own rules for calculating payments, handling partial periods, adjusting for rate changes, and applying fees. ThinkBudgets does not have access to your lender's specific calculation methods. You should always refer to your lender's official statements for actual payment amounts and balances due.

Debt-to-Income (DTI) Ratio

ThinkBudgets calculates your debt-to-income ratio using the income figures you enter, which may be gross (pre-tax) or post-tax salary depending on how you set up your budget. Lenders typically calculate DTI using gross monthly income (before taxes and deductions). Because of this difference, the DTI ratio displayed in ThinkBudgets may not match what a lender would calculate and should not be relied upon for mortgage qualification, creditworthiness assessments, or any lending decisions.

No Guarantee of Accuracy

All financial figures, projections, and ratios generated by ThinkBudgets — including but not limited to loan calculations, payment schedules, DTI ratios, budget forecasts, and spending insights — are provided for informational and personal budgeting purposes only. They are rough estimates intended to help you organize your finances, not precise financial instruments. ThinkBudgets makes no warranty or guarantee regarding the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any calculated figure. You should not make financial decisions based solely on information from ThinkBudgets without consulting your lender, financial advisor, or other qualified professional.

10. Educational Content

ThinkBudgets provides articles, guides, glossary definitions, and other educational materials related to personal finance topics such as budgeting, saving, and debt management. This content is available both on our public website and within the app.

All educational content is for general informational and educational purposes only. It does not constitute financial, investment, tax, legal, or professional advice and should not be relied upon as such. The information may be simplified, generalized, or incomplete — it is written to introduce concepts, not to replace the guidance of a qualified professional.

ThinkBudgets makes no warranty or guarantee regarding the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or applicability of any educational content to your specific financial situation. Personal finance decisions depend on individual circumstances that these materials cannot account for.

You should consult a licensed financial advisor, accountant, attorney, or other qualified professional before making financial decisions based on anything you read in our educational materials. ThinkBudgets is not liable for any actions you take — or fail to take — based on this content.

11. Third-Party Services

ThinkBudgets connects to third-party services like Plaid, ad networks, and authentication providers. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies — we're not responsible for them. Links to outside sites are for convenience only and don't mean we endorse them.

12. Intellectual Property

The ThinkBudgets app — its design, code, graphics, and content — belongs to us. Don't copy, reverse-engineer, or redistribute it without our permission.

Your budget data belongs to you. By using the Service, you give us a limited license to store and process that data to run the app. We don't sell it.

If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them to improve the product. We appreciate it, but we can't commit to keeping it confidential or paying you for it.

13. Warranties

We work hard to make ThinkBudgets reliable and useful. That said:

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND — EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DON'T GUARANTEE THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, UNINTERRUPTED, OR THAT YOUR DATA WILL NEVER BE LOST. YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of the above may not apply to you.

14. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THINKBUDGETS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES — INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOST SAVINGS, OR FINANCIAL LOSSES — EVEN IF WE'VE BEEN TOLD SUCH DAMAGES WERE POSSIBLE.

IN NO EVENT WILL OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) WHAT YOU PAID US IN THE PRIOR 12 MONTHS, OR (B) $100 USD. SINCE THINKBUDGETS IS FREE, THAT MEANS OUR MAXIMUM LIABILITY IS $100.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these limitations, in which case our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.

15. Indemnification

You agree to hold ThinkBudgets harmless from any claims, damages, or costs (including legal fees) that arise from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party rights.

16. Termination

Either of us can end this at any time. We may suspend or close your account — with or without notice — if we believe you've violated these Terms. To delete your account, email hello@thinkbudgets.com with the subject line "Delete My Account." We will process your request within 30 days.

Sections 9–10 and 12–15 and 17 survive termination.

17. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict of law rules.

If you have a dispute with us, please reach out first — most things can be worked out. If we can't resolve it within 30 days, disputes will go to binding arbitration under AAA rules in Texas. You give up your right to a jury trial and to participate in any class action. Either party may still seek emergency injunctive relief in court.

If any part of this section is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll update the effective date at the top when we do, and we'll try to notify you of material changes via the app or email. Continuing to use ThinkBudgets after changes go live means you accept the updated Terms.
